چکیده

We have studied an integrate-and-#re model neuron driven by a periodic sequence of Gaussianshaped current pulses of width 1=2N and amplitude . For large N the current is a sequence of delta pulses and for smaller N it approaches a sine. When N is large, the #ring rate f vs. curve is a staircase of entrainment steps yielding an Arnold tongue structure in the vs. plane. In the small N limit we #nd novel entrainment steps in the f vs. plane, without Arnold tongue structure. The steps in the two N regimes are related by a duality transformation. In the presence of noise in the pulse arrival times, the steps disappear above a critical noise value. c © 2002 Published by Elsevier Science B.V.

Mode locking in a periodically forced resonate-and-fire neuron model.

The resonate-and-fire (RF) model is a spiking neuron model which from a dynamical systems perspective is a piecewise smooth system (impact oscillator). We analyze the response of the RF neuron oscillator to periodic stimuli by expressing the firing events in terms of an implicit one-dimensional time map. Based on such a firing map, we describe mode-locked solutions and their stability, leading ...

Mode locking and Arnold tongues in integrate-and-fire neural oscillators.

An analysis of mode-locked solutions that may arise in periodically forced integrate-and-fire (IF) neural oscillators is introduced based upon a firing map formulation of the dynamics. A q:p mode-locked solution is identified with a spike train in which p firing events occur in a period qDelta, where Delta is the forcing period. A linear stability analysis of the map of firing times around such...

Spike-time reliability of periodically driven integrate-and-fire neurons

The response of model neurons driven by a periodic current converges onto mode-locked attractors. Reliability, de%ned as the noise stability of the attractor, was studied as a function of the drive frequency and noise strength. For weak noise, the neuron remained on one attractor and reliability was high. For intermediate noise strength, transitions between attractors occurred. For strong noise...

Markov analysis of stochastic resonance in a periodically driven integrate-and-fire neuron.

We model the dynamics of the leaky integrate-and-fire neuron under periodic stimulation as a Markov process with respect to the stimulus phase. This avoids the unrealistic assumption of a stimulus reset after each spike made in earlier papers and thus solves the long-standing reset problem. The neuron exhibits stochastic resonance, both with respect to input noise intensity and stimulus frequen...

Gluing and grazing bifurcations in periodically forced 2-dimensional integrate-and-fire models∗

In this work we consider a general 2-dimensional integrate-and-fire model. Assuming that the system possesses and attracting node, we show that, when periodically driven, the systems possesses a periodic orbit which may undergo tangent-grazing or nonsmooth-grazing bifurcation. For the former simulations show that system can exhibit bi-stability. For the latter we perform a semi-rigorous study o...
